Art by Sharon Michael

Growing up on the ranch, if I wasn't out riding a horse, I could usually be found inside drawing pictures of horses. Now, a lifetime later, I am following much the same pattern. Although I am no longer training green horses or sorting cattle on a cutting horse, I am still raising horses and ponies and working with them on the farm. While there is no longer the adrenaline rush of a "Snowy River ride" now, I feel fortunate that I am able to still enjoy the action through my artwork. When you have spent years learning to do things right with a horse, those memories allow you to get it right when you put it on paper.

All original artwork and prints for sale are listed with dimensions and price and include matting for standard sized framing. Shipping costs are not included in the purchase price.

I do still accept a limited number of commissions for portraits and memorial portraits have always been of particular interest for me. Please contact me if you would like to discuss a commissioned portrait for that special animal in your life: kaleidoscopefarm@gmail.com or telephone (606) 379-5140.

This is a memorial portrait in graphite of my foundation Oldenburg stallion, Weltstern, who was truly a once in a lifetime horse. Imported from Germany, I purchased him as a 9 year old and loved him dearly until his death in 2012, at the age of 30. He was always a gentleman in all ways, well mannered, responsive and people oriented and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have had him in my life.

Original is not available, but fine art giclee prints, matted for standard 11 x 14 frame, are available through the studio.

Original graphite study. Actual image size 4.5 x 6.5

Matted for standard 11 x 14 frame. Shipped matted but not framed.

The reference photos for this image were taken years ago when I was still living "out west" and breeding Quarter Horses. There were several breeders that got together periodically at one of the local arenas and worked together to train for shows. The smaller arena and informal atmosphere made it an ideal opportunity for photography.

The original of this was done as a unicorn foal as a gift for a friend who collects unicorns. I have really enjoyed working this particular image and just keep thinking of more fun things I can do with it.

The model was a part Arab sportpony foal now in my broodmare herd that was particularly photogenic. I find living with my models makes my artwork so much more personal and my knowledge of the character behind the photos often seems to affect the art as well.
