CHELEKEN ZEALANDIA

 "Baxter"

Baxter continues to stand at Kaleidoscope Farm, producing outstanding hunter pony prospects as well as charming our visitors. Owned by Julie Hooi of Khamian Farm in South Carolina, he is a very correct Caspian Pony imported from New Zealand in 1998, from a breeder who has very successfully crossed the Caspian Ponies to Thoroughbreds to produce quality show ponies. He is shown here at 9 years of age, with Julie's daughter, Kate, age 10, on his first ride.

Baxter jumping

Baxter has sired both purebred Caspian foals and several partbred foals as well, with most of his purebred sons going into breeding programs. However, his oldest purebred son has been sold to a show home in California and the two oldest purebred daughters have gone to homes where they will be used as riding ponies as well as going into breeding programs.

Baxter jumping/bareback

In addition to his purebred foals, Baxter has been selectively bred to larger non-Caspian mares to produce show ponies that will be taller than Caspians while retaining the characteristics of temperament, movement and jumping ability. The results are very promising, with his 2002 filly, Gala's Stardust Legacy, owned by Gail Forrest of Virginia, as the most noteworthy example to date. This filly was the high point Zone 3 Pony Hunter Breeding Yearling Division winner, putting Baxter in first place nationally as the USAE Pony Hunter Breeding Sire for 2003. In 2006 Fan Z This, a bay crossbred filly owned by Roxanne May, sired by Baxter out of a TB mare, was presented to ASPR for inspection at the Nokesville, VA inspection and was site champion at that inspection with an "8" overall score. This same filly was leading the VPBA hunter breeding classes at the time.

Sophistication (Sofie)

Sophie is a very lovely, bay tobiano filly out of the Kaleidoscope mare "Elegance". This filly is an excellent example of the classic hunter pony type that Baxter produces out of a variety of mares. If she is not sold, we are hoping to get her to some local hunter pony in hand classes locally in 2007.

Baxter will continue to stand at Kaleidoscope Farm, A.I. only, shipped semen available. Current stud fee is $650 which includes a non-refundable $150 booking fee. For more information regarding Baxter and his offspring, contact us or his owner, Julie Hooi at
